Webcams & Weather page

Overview The HSC Webcam and weather page operates on a separate webhost (Infinity Free under the “guize” of epizy). Why? Until the change of main webhost, there was insufficient disc space and/or bandwidth to allow web images to be processed. As there are no such restrictions with Infinity Free it seemed like a sensible place to go. This could be changed to the new main host server … but it ain't broke! So why? It would be a significant task without any benefit.

Web cams The page displays 4 images from South through to North, each updated every 3 or 4 minutes throughout the day. These upload independently to separate folders from each camera through its own web interface. Access to these cameras is via local IP address using a web browser while connected to the club's local network.

Additional page features Further weather and tidal information is also displayed on the page, gathered from a variety of sources:-

  • The club's own weather station via WeatherCloud
  • Willy Weather Widget
  • Tide times - Javascript display of Greenock tides
  • Annual Tidetables - via VistMyHarbour
  • Millport realtime tidal gauge and estimated surge forecast for the Clyde
  • Windfinder forecast for Helensburgh
  • Synoptic Charts (Aug 2022) generated on the HSC webhost from Met Office free synoptic data [See../weathermaps folder Readme]
  • Marine traffic AIS display for the upper Clyde estuary

The main PHP page finds and processes the latest images from each of the cameras, and then renders these together with the other displays.
